In the papers - i see my countries politricks unfold. The birth of MDC was pregnant with change, years later - the child, prematurely born, died somewhere on the way home from hospital. What's left of them, are tid-bits of power corrupted individuals, eager to get a piece of the pie at any expense.
This is evident, in the current marriage between the 2 parties, MDC T and the ruling party. I am no politricks fundi, but i remember days when i to wanted to grace the parliamentary walls. Instead, the enemy infiltrated into MDC and disected them in so many ways, leaving them weak and confused.
Behind closed doors, i wonder - what diamonds where dangled before Morgan. By the way Morgan, i do not accuse you of corruption, but, but i accuse you of losing focus. A lesson which we can learn for our own lives; always setting your eyes on the constant northern star. Unfortunately Zesa disconnected the light house that guided MDC years ago, what they have left are primitive hand held torches that only enable them to see the next few steps ahead. And who owns Zesa?
Perhaps our salvation lies in the Party that has ruled us for all these years? I dream there is a young leader they are molding to assume 'the throne' by now this young man has raped the nation enough such that when his turn comes, he might be shy enough to only take a little. Yet he is only human, and like those that have gone before him, he too will fall in the same traps.
MDC 99 - who would vote for a party with a name like that? How did they even come up with that. A fresh start is what they needed because MDC is synonymous with change, and we know now change in Zimbabwe is impossible, only what i and perhaps the rest of my brothers and sisters can do is hope, hope for a better tomorrow.

Politics itself is not corrupt. It is after all about social relations and group dynamics. Deciding what nightclub to go to as the girls -there is politics involved there.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that politics inherently involves authority and power. And it is the misuse of such authority and power that begets evil and corruption.
From the teen dictator who rules her clique by the fist, to the aged tyrant who will not relinquish the presidency... What rings true is that they both are not responsive or accountable to the group they should in fact be representing.
In short i guess what im trying to say can be summed up by that old adage: Absolute Power Corrupts. [I think what Im saying is that it's power that corrupts. Politics itself cannot be said to be evil or corrupt].

Well said Miss O.T, i agree that Politics standing alone without man involved is not corrupt, but once we take it, and own it, suddenly we see another side to social relationships and group dynamics. Love the young dictator it made me laugh.

What we have my dear, in this coalition, is a situation where a well intentioned being has signed a pact with the devil, while hoping to remain pure.
ReplyDeleteMDC's "politics" spoke of a change that people were ready for. They hoped to uplift a people who had long suffered under the tyranny of McGabe. In essence they had good intentions.
However, to effectively bring about such change to the government [by that I mean both the governance and the institution]of Zimbabwe, MDC needed authority. To obtain this authority MDC needed to regain/ take/win power from the then ruling party Zanu.
And therein lies their ultimate failure:
They failed to attain the simple majority that would have afforded them the authority to take control of Zimbabwe, to bring the wheels of change fully into motion. [I hear you say the elections were rigged etc etc. But I believe in the struggle for change we have to become revolutionaries. It is not enough to merely hope for change, one must be willing to give anything and everything to bring it about. But that's not the discush here]
In short my point is, theories or good intentions are just that: Theories and good intentions. To be able to effect change, MDC needs to assume a position of complete authority in Zimbabwe. Where they take over the reigns and are free to implement the changes they once dreamed of making. [Look how Obama has made such a change in a short space of time - the advantages of having authority].
Isnt it ironic though, that for MDC to bring about change they need power, when they have that power they will be susceptible to corruption...and so the cycle continues....
ps: Mugabe should have left after he served two terms as president. He never should have been allowed to remain in the position of authority for so long. Perfect example of how power corrupts. Once a hero, now he will only be remembered for the hardship he’s caused the nation of Zimbabwe.

4 years ago i believed Morgan was well intentioned, but after signing that unity thing, he lost all credibility i believe. Nkomo signed it, where did he end up? Morgan signed it and where is he now? And were is he going? We say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Morgan couldnt wait for absolute power, so he jus said ok,il have the little that i can get lol.
ReplyDeleteObama's change is what we can only wish for in Zim. And when MDC has the power one day (which i highly doubt) will they be able to chanell it accordingly.
Anyway enuf politiking, sizabotshwa check out the Aids thing, heartbreaking <3
