The men you see in the picture are referred to as Moors - if you recall Othello, he was a Moor. Here is a quick wiki for you. If you are too lazy to click, basically they are of black African and North Arab descent - your Morocco and Algeria forming Muslim and non-Muslim folks with a hint of Spaniards and Portuguese.

They were a powerful people, with a strong army - storming Europe. They can also be found in today's Mauritania in West Africa.
